The Power of Ideas

Technology leaders have long been told to think like the Chief Financial Officer and find ways utilize technology to control costs. This advice has served us well as IT departments large and small became the catalyst for cost reduction projects that took significant spending out of the bottom line.

But now that most companies are running lean, cost control by itself is no longer enough to fuel the continued success and relevance of IT. Today, IT leaders must begin to think like the Chief Marketing Officer and contribute fresh ideas to innovate and drive new revenue.

The new technology leader must now have the creative imagination of a marketing guru combined with the hands-on expertise of a seasoned developer, and the leadership abilities of a skilled Chief Executive Officer. He or she must be able to dream of a better way to reach new business, know how to achieve it, and then marshall the necessary resources to execute and deliver.

What this means for IT professionals is that we must go beyond simply keeping our hands on the latest technology. We must look to engage in new business ideas. We must reach out to entrepreneurs, creative marketing teams, and savvy salespeople. We must think of new ways to reinvent our companies every day.

This website is dedicated to this new way of thinking about IT architecture and leadership in our new world of web-enable business.
